In 1971, Li Xianwen launched the monthly magazine LionArt, becoming a pioneer in Taiwan’s art magazine industry.

LionArt was the most influential professional art magazine in Taiwan during the last century, witnessing the development of half a century of Taiwanese art history. From 1971 to 1996, it featured works by nearly 4,000 Chinese artists, 10,000 pages of out-of-print gallery advertisements, art reviews, and artist profiles, all of which are exclusive historical materials for art history research.

UDP exclusively includes the complete LionArt monthly, integrating and publishing the LionArt Digital Archive with two innovative features: “Image Search” and “AI Colorize.”

This donation exhibition at the National Central Library exhibit LionArt monthly and over 400 art-related books published by Lion Books from 1971 to 2023, but also displays twenty precious portraits of senior artists created by Li Xianwen.
